POTATO POTATO play progressive folk, with guitars, violin, mandolin, cajon and voices.

The origins of the band can be traced back to a flamenco bar in Madrid, where Will and Liam were inspired to form a guitar duet. Charlotte first heard Will and Liam playing at an open mic night, and was 'moved more than I've ever been by two guitars,' and begun to sing with them. Charlotte soon encouraged her sister Heather, whom she played with in the 'Sterland Sisters' act, to join them, making the band a quartet. The band's original music comes about as a result of combining all their influences, particularly folk music from around the world, rock, classical, jazz and country music.

Charlotte began her musical career aged 6 playing a half sized violin strung as a viola. She soon started learning piano and would perform first at school concerts and then in hotels and restaurants for a bit of cash. She started singing jazz aged 17 and over time moved into country and folk, meanwhile writing her own songs. Her all time favourite singers are Joan Baez, Joni Mitchell, Dolly Parton, and Ella Fitzgerald.

Heather sings and plays violin, viola and piano. Her inspiration for playing the violin comes from Joseph Szigeti, and she enjoys dancing around her room to the likes of Britney spears and 50 cent. She also loves Ella Fitzgerald and her favourite voice ever is that of Eva Cassidy.

Will took piano and trumpet lessons throughout childhood, and taught himself guitar aged 17. His favourite styles of music are Romantic piano, bebop, lo-tech acoustic, and anything Simon Posford is involved in. Elliott Smith and Shpongle are perhaps his strongest influences.

Liam had little or no interest in music during his childhood, until he was given a Jimi Hendrix cd at the age of 15, inspiring him to get an electric guitar for his 16th birthday. This remained solely a hobby until, aged 19, he went to Madrid with Will and was captivated by the flamenco guitarists he saw. His grandfather then sadly passed away, leaving him his mandolin. His main influences are classic rock such as Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin, progressive music such as Pink Floyd, The Mars Volta and Tool, and flamenco.
